Bethnal Green United Football Club was formed by Nurul Hoque and Akhtar Ahmed in the year 2000. The primary aim was to promote football and develop the skills of young people in and around Bethnal Green and later the whole of Tower Hamlets. Football was used to tackle the issues of concern to these local young people by delivering a package of sports and social education. This hopefully will keep them away from the streets and urban negativity and encourage them to achieve their own goals and aspirations.

The club’s objectives are as follows:

•    Provide sports activities and social education;
•    Promote football within the youth;
•    Provide access to football facilities;
•    Provide access to local football leagues;
•    Divert young people away from urban negativity;
•    Provide informal education and discussions on drugs, crime, violence, racism, vandalism, etc;
•    To engage young people in main stream societal life;
•    Break down territorial and cultural barriers;
•    Develop young people, physically and mentally;
•    Create peer motivators and team leaders;
•    Build own potentials and qualities;
•    To work with other like minded orgainsations.

Bethnal Green United Football Club whilst continuing to fulfill the above aims and objectives are now planning to take local football to a more senior level. We are hoping we can get as much support from the local community and local authorities, and one day want to play our home games in a football ground in Tower Hamlets that is senior status football ground. We strive to make this a possibility.
