Bethnal Green Utd FC was established in 2000 by a group of young people who wanted to do something during there spare time. Most of these young people had no form of recreational activity to engage them apart for the occasional visit to the local youth club. The added zest of enthusiasm was for them to establish a local football team that represented Bethnal Green and promoted the area of Bethnal Green with its rich history and diversity.

Bethnal Green Utd FC was born to give young people of Bethnal Green a sense of identity, promote community cohesion, develop mutual understanding between young people of different race and cultures and an opportunity for them to excel in a sport that they have a strong interest in.

Since the formation of the team we have played in a variety of leagues starting with the League Bangla, Summer League. London intermediate and currently competing in the Middlesex County League.

This new season will be a challenging one for the team and I have every confidence in the abilities of our players, the Manager and the coaching staff to make it a memorable season for our supporters and the entire playing squad.

Bethnal Green Utd FC is an ambitious project. We are currently competing in level 7 of the football pyramid but have the energy, enthusiasm and aspiration to get to the very top. The name ‘Bethnal Green’ is a recognisable name with people all over the country, if not the world. An area made famous by landmarks such as York Hall, Bethnal Green Musem of Childhood, Columbia Road Flower Market, Brick Lane, Spitafields Market and the infamous Kray Twins.

As with many others I am delighted and enthusiastic that London will host 2012 Olympics Games with most of the key developments happening on our doorstep. It is a superb opportunity for our young people of Tower Hamlets to excel in sports and having the usage of the state of facilities once the Olympics is over. Bethnal Green Utd FC will work with LB Tower Hamlets and offer any assistance we can to make the games memorable to everyone.

We are extremely grateful for the support we receive from residents and businesses of Bethnal Green as well as our local Ward Councilors and in particular Cllr Sirajul Islam who helped us initially to establish ourselves as a football team and Akhter Ahmed another founder member who helped and encouraged me develop the team further. I would also like to express my thanks and gratitude to the following for there help and support.

London Borough of Tower Hamlets, Canary Wharf Ltd, Middlesex County League, Cllr Shira Kharfa, Lead Member Culture, Saheed Ullah, Local Area Director.
